What Can the School Counselor Do?
Professional School Counselors are skilled in working with children to develop academic, career and social-emotional competencies that equip them for school success. This can be done through whole-class guidance lessons, small social/academic instruction groups, or brief individual counseling.
Whole-Class Lessons
At Bell, these guidance lessons are facilitated by classroom teachers using our responsive classroom morning meeting time, or through the use of our Second Step Curriculum. To find out more, contact your student's teacher about how this is implemented in his/her class.

Social/Academic Instruction GroupsTopics for these groups can vary from academic skills such as organization to social-emotional themes such as making friends and managing stress. The need for a specific topic and student identification for participation is handled through teacher referral to the Bell Behavioral Health Team. Groups may be facilitated by the counselor or teacher volunteers.

Brief Individual CounselingVarious challenges for our students arise and can interfere with learning. This can range from changes in the home, social conflicts, managing one's own emotions or academic struggles. Brief individual counseling sessions can help! These sessions are largely with Mrs. Khorana, but can be arranged with another trusted adult in the building. Referrals for brief individual counseling come through the Bell Behavioral Health Team, from parents, or from the student.
